- JOHN BUCHANAN, in Gartincaber, the first of this family, is called by Auchmar John, first son of the second marriage to Thomas, third of that name of Carbeth. In a bond of caution, 31st March 1591, John Buchanan, “in Gartincavir,” is called “Auld Thomas’ sone” – “Auld Thomas” being doubtless Thomas Buchanan of Carbeth. He had two sons: (1) George, his successor; and (2) Walter, who left no male issue.
